Wallet full of nothing

I decided to attend the temple this morning. Because it is situated two hours from where I live, I wanted to leave early enough to give me the opportunity to attend a couple of sessions before the return trip home. After a long, hot drive, I arrived at the top of temple hill and decided to pull out my recommend. To my frustration, it wasn't there. I pulled out the contents of my wallet and found myself staring at credit cards, dollar bills, store coupons, vouchers, and driver's license, but no recommend. Though disappointed, I turned the car around and headed the two hours back home.

Along the way, I thought what a lesson I had learned. I had spent so much time thinking I was prepared to reach my spiritual destination, only to be denied entry because I was missing the one essential item that would have allowed me in. The time it took to travel allowed me no passage. All my worldly credit allowed me no gain. Material vouchers allowed me no entrance. Money allowed me no doorway. NOTHING gave me entry to what I most wanted to do because I hadn't prepared in the essential ways.

I wondered how much life parallels this day. I spend my days in mad dashes towards eternity, surrounded by my material pursuits and gains. I hope when I reach that last spiritual destination, I will have more than worldly clutter in my possession. I hope I will have the essential matters covered that will allow me entrance into my eternal home.

Ellerslie Flower Show

Once a year the New Zealander's host the Ellerslie Flower Show. Expecting a Thanksgiving Point Experience, we laid down our money and headed to Manukau. Though the day was delightful, it was more an experience with vendors than with flowers. Dad's favorite site was the Interflora Fashion Show. Needless to say, we're still trying to "get" our surroundings, though we're loving the effort.
